IT DEPENDS. It depends on the objective we have for the work and it depends on how we think it will be best to work for us. Personally, I do not use or like the grid (it does not mean that you should not use it, it is simply my opinion). Why don't I use it and I don't recommend using it? Because we become excellent copyers of lines within squares ... In this way all kinds of proportion problems are solved and for me that is saving too much work. Not only that but if we all used this method, we would all draw the same object in the same way, it does not lead to mistakes therefore it does not allow us to show our natural deformations of the form (which gives our work a lot of personality) . In the second option we see a grid of 4 squares instead of 36 which - in case you want to use a grid - seems more appropriate to me since it does not help us as much as the other one. In any case, I insist, part of the beauty of drawing is feeling free, making mistakes and that our personality and defects appear even if we don't want to. The grid hides all this ... part of the beauty of drawing is feeling free, making mistakes and that our personality and defects appear even if we don't want to. A very different thing is if you already have the drawing made and put a grid above and then enlarge the drawing on a mural or on a larger canvas. I want to repeat that there are NO things that can be done or things that are forbidden, there is no right or wrong option, I don't like going down the line or having it done to me. Take all these comments as advice and opinions. There are exceptions and reasons why I believe it is correct to use this method. Example, if you want to do a hyper-realistic work, with all the indisputably correct proportions, OK, do it like this. But know that I do not consider it the best way to work constantly because as I said earlier in this writing, we are going to become good little square copiers. In this case it is not black or white, there are grays… although I choose black and never use it haha! Don't stress too much, don't wonder too much, DO, DRAW !!!
